And today, the story of Jeanne d'Arc (as described in Rouen museums).Jeanne d'Arc was born around 1412. At the age of 16, she left her parents' farm to fight the English. She convinced the then-uncrowned King Charles VII to allow her to accompany one of his armies, dressed as a knight. She quickly won the confidence of the army commanders, and lifted the siege of Orléans after only 9 days.
She quickly enjoyed a string of military victories, but 3 years later, as she was accompanying the rear guard during a retreat, she was surrounded and captured. She was taken to Rouen, where she was imprisoned and threatened with torture (here).
She was forced to recant, and to agree not to wear men's clothing again. Three days later, though, she was again found wearing men's clothes, and was burned at the stake (here).
Today, the site is commemorated with a church and farmers market.
Also, with macaroons ('the tears of Jeanne'):

Macarons seem like a good way to commemorate - just about anything.
Looks pretty tastefully done. Nice panorama shot.
