Uros

Yesterday, I took a bus from Cusco to Puno. I did not take the bus I had a reservation for, since I foolishly misread the arrival time on my reservation as the departure time, but fortunately buses are cheap and ubiquitous here, so I went to the main bus terminal and found a bus to Puno leaving 10 minutes later.

Today and tomorrow I'm doing a boat tour of Lake Titicaca.

My first stop, Uros, the floating islands.

These islands, and all their structures, were created entirely by the first little pig: everything is made of reeds (with solar panels).

Cooking here can be dicey.

Here, a mockup of the island design:

The best part: any familial dispute can be resolved by cutting the island in half.

As you might expect, much of their money comes from tourism. At least, I assume that's why all their boats have figureheads of freaky cat-creatures.

was it weird walking on the island?

No, just like normal ground, covered with reeds.

Hopefully the boat you were on for two days was slightly larger than the cat boat.
