Colca Canyon

Colca Canyon is more than 10,000 feet deep, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. Today, I hiked to bottom and back.

(Actually, I think my hike only had around 3,500 feet of elevation change, but it was still a slog).

Here, a mother and daughter shucking corn together:

And, back to the hike:

The oasis Sangalle:

After a brief swim, I started hiking back up. The whole hike was hot and dusty, and I was running low on water by the time I made it back to the top. I decided not to stay another day: the views were nice, but the hiking was kind of monotonous (switchback, switchback, switchback, switchback, switchback, switchback, switchback, switchback, switchback....)

Interesting looking corn. Sort of like our Indian maize.
I see what you mean about the switchbacks: the Z's on the canyon wall.

That pool must have been wonderful after the hike!

Yeah, the pool was great! Too bad it was at the halfway point instead of the end!
