Calvi

Yesterday was our last day in Corsica. We continued driving up the coast towards Calvi. Because of the turn in the weather on our last day, and because there were no restaurants open along the way, we ended up hurrying a bit more than we might have otherwise done, skipping some of the other sections of the coastal road.

On the plus side, in Calvi we had our best meal in Corsica. I got the mac & cheese, which involved a massive wheel of parmesan cheese, which they set on fire, and poured the pasta directly on top of, stirring the molten cheese until it coated every molecule of the pasta. This was delicious!

We spent some time wandering around Calvi in the rain, driving up to the church at the top of the hill, but then headed to the airport a bit early, just in case we ran into delays there.

It's hatching!

Our trip to Paris went smoothly - though it took us a while to figure out how to get from the airport back to our hotel. By the time we arrived, I was coming down with a cold, and went straight to bed, to get a good night's sleep before the return flight today.

I'm glad I did - I needed to be up at 5 am for the return flight, then after an easy flight to Amsterdam, I was stuck on the runway for 5 hours with mechanical delays, and didn't make it back into DC until late at night - just in time for a week-long GIS conference. Whew!

It's been a great trip! We saw tons of amazing scenery, learned some French history and got to practice our French, ate good food, took lots of pictures, and best of all, we had the whole island practically to ourselves! I'm glad I had the chance to spend a week with my parents in such an incredible locale!

It was an amazing trip and luckily we only had one day with what I considered bad weather and it was at the very end. I really recommend Corsica as a destination for a trip.
