Ajaccio to Porto (Part I)

I'm a big believer in the 'intermediate planning' approach to vacations. I like to have the broad brush strokes sketched out in advance, and to have a few ideas of activities I want to do, but I don't like my trips to be so programmed that we can't be flexible when things change or when other ideas come up.

Today was a good example of that strategy in action. Our initial plan had been to take a boat tour, but when that was cancelled due to rough seas (allegedly - see photos below), we needed to come up with an alternate plan. We made a leisurely drive up the coast from Ajaccio towards Porto, and when we saw an open tourist office, we asked for some ideas. They suggested a great beachside trail, which was on our way, and had some fantastic views. Between that, an afternoon hike, and lots of photo stops along the way, we had no trouble filling up our day!

Another Genoese tower:

Holy beach rocks, Batman!

I made my parents nervous climbing up to take photos from the top of some rocks above the beach - the climb up was easy, but it took me a while to find a good way to get down. Sorry, Mom...

Posing my bird was a challenge, given the sea breeze.

Goats!

We never found out what was going on with this building: it had a hole blown in the back, and a large tree growing in one of the side rooms.

I would have liked to hike out to this waterfall:

I'm dividing up my photos around midday (roughly), just to keep this post from being too long - the scenery was gorgeous for the entire drive!

Yeah the sea in these particular photos does not look too rough :) I suspect I would have been quite nervous watching you climb down as well!
