Nazca Lines: meh

Today I visited the Nazca Lines. This was actually the biggest disappointment of my trip so far. I spent 5 hours taking the bus down to Nazca, then another 5 hours back, and spent more money than I have on most of my other tours combined, for a 36 minute flight over the lines.

They were okay.

Part of the problem was that the landscape itself just wasn't very interesting. I had to dial the contrast way up on my photos to see anything all - mostly the flight looked like this:

The lines didn't stand out very clearly, and the actual drawings (spiders, hummingbirds, etc.) were pretty small, and didn't look terribly impressive. We reached some hills near the end of the flight:

If you turn the contrast way up, you can see the lines more easily:

Some more high contrast versions:

'The astronaut' (this was one of the easier ones to make out):

At the very end, there were some ancient aqueducts:

Overall, though, I think I liked the lawn versions better:

It's not that you shouldn't see the Nazca Lines if you're in Nazca - you just shouldn't go to Nazca. Thumbs down.

Bummer about the costly disappointment. Guess I'll cross that off my to-do list.

I will keep that in mind, the next time I am in the area

And the Nazca designs are famous. Unlike all the other things you visited, which I'd never heard of.
