Monkeys!

Today I saw my first titi monkeys! (San Martin titi monkeys, to be more precise).

We got an early start that morning (me and a few of my housemates), heading down the stairs to the river.

We then walked along a trail for a ways, until we were a bit deeper into the jungle (but just a bit: this was still pretty close to town).

Leafcutter ants:

Once there, they set up a stereo with some monkey sounds to try to lure some monkeys in from the jungle. (The goal was to record some more of their calls, for another project).

We had gone out to try this before, but this time we were in luck - there!

After waiting quietly for a bit, listening to the monkeys chatter in the trees around us, we saw them leap through the treetops over our heads, crossing back and forth over the trail, and posing nicely for photos.

Detail:

Yay monkeys!

Much cuter than the caimans.

Do you think it was the stereo sound of monkey chirps or did this monkey recognize a soul mate?
