Yesterday afternoon I arrived at Torres del Paine National Park:
I then got up at 2:45 in the morning (along with a hiking buddy I'd met onboard the Eden), so that I could see this:
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
Pow!
After hanging around for a while and taking photos, we then headed back down the mountain, at which point I could see everything I'd walked past a few hours earlier:
There were ferocious winds the whole time (the forecast predicted 100 km/h), the kind of winds that would be considered a hurricane elsewhere, but here are classified as a 'Wednesday.' (But otherwise perfect weather, which apparently NEVER happens here).
And back to the start. I just did a day hike here (the full trail can take a week and a half, which I didn't have time for), but I'm so glad I came here - I had a fantastic time!

Looks like a serious hike. Where was your hiking buddy from?
