I fell in with a couple of Canadians, and we trash-talked Toronto and Sarah Palin together for a good part of the day. One of the nice things about talking with Canadians is, you always pick up useful little tidbits that could come in handy if you're ever in a place where Americans are unpopular: "Why, yes, I'm Canadian, eh?But if Quebec does secede, we'll lose all our goalies!"
After the park, I caught a bus to Temuco, where I spent an hour wandering around looking for a cheap hotel/hostel, then promptly walked into a restaurant and accidentally ordered a bottle of wine instead of a glass, which cost half as much as my room did. Oops...

The trees look interesting, the way the branches fan out on top. Glad you had a good time with the Canadians. I've only been to Toronto once. It seemed O.K. But now, Toronto = Rob Ford.
Yeah, Rob Ford was a big part of the conversation (I don't have anything against Toronto myself, but apparently there's some fierce intra-Canadian rivalry between Toronto and Ottowa). The trees are auracarias ('monkey puzzle trees').
