Sheep Wrangling

I'd been in Chile for about 24 hours when I attended my first sheep-painting.

Yeah, I'm not totally sure how that happened either.

My host family here seem to be sort of professional jacks-of-all-trades. They grow fruit and vegetables, and make jam and honey, and sell lumber, and take in students, and have chickens and geese and bees. And sheep.

They had taken their sheep in to get sheared, and the shearers discovered that some of the sheep had some welts where flies had bitten them and they had rubbed themselves raw from the itching. My host family was driving over to give the sheep some medicine, and invited me over to 'help.' This mostly involved running around in manure chasing sheep while the professionals did the actual catching, but I did successfully grab a leg on one occasion. As you might imagine, this is going straight on the ol' resume.

After that, the sheep were flipped over and painted purple.

(Apparently they dye their disinfectants). The sheep were given a shot of penicillin and released. (Don't worry, they'll be fine). Then we drove back and I got to help wash the manure off our boots.

See, I never get to do things like this at the office.
