Lyon - November 29, 2004, Addendum

Oh, I forgot to mention Thanksgiving. Everyone in our program (both year-long and semester) went to Grenoble (where other California students are studying) for a big Thanksgiving feast. The meal itself wasn't that good (a tiny bit of peas, potatoes, yams, turkey, and some bizarre attempt at stuffing that tasted like ground up salami), and the ambience wasn't quite homey (it was in the faculty cafeteria, I believe) but I got to meet some new people in the other programs. Additionally, the desserts were spectacular. Everyone brought a dessert, so there were at least 50 in all (I made chocolate chip cookies). I had pumpkin pie, apple pie, apple crisp, several chocolate cakes, a variety of cookies, an eclaire, rice crispies, truffles, twix, plus assorted nuts and candies, all topped with melting vanilla ice cream. Mmmm... It was wonderful. It's a good thing I'd skipped lunch in preparation - I was still full the next morning. Plus, I got a cake out of it. Ali had decided to stay in Grenoble for the weekend, and most of the chocolate cake he'd brought (that his host mom had made) was still uneaten, so he asked me if I wanted it. Hmmm... let me think.....
