Sleeping Bear Dunes NL, Michigan - June 25, 2007

I know that there's been some interest in how we're spending all our time alone out on an island for days at a time. I included some of my diary entries, to give people an idea:

Day 1: Ah, what a beauteous world is this! Truly, there are no finer things in life than to merely exist, surrounded by such nature and greenery! I can think of nothing I'd rather do than to merely sit, and think, and walk amongst such wonders as these!

Day 4: To date I have seen garter snakes, toads, a toad being eaten bya garter snake, field mice, millipedes, porcupines, turtles, deer, coyote, a coyote being chased by a deer, plus all manner of fish and fowl. Cool!

Day 7: Today Paul and I went fishing. We didn't have a fishing rod, so we tried our hands at spear fishing, leaping down upon the fish from above, like fire from heaven. We caught nothing.

Day 8: We spent most of today skipping stones and looking under rocks and logs for animals. What fun!

Day 10: In attempt to top the basketball hoop built in camp by Pat, Paul and I constructed a tetherball game. It worked for a while, then fell apart.

Day 11: We have now moved beyond practical construction and into the realms of abstract art. Using mostly found objects, trash, and animal remains, we have truly created a marvel…. Much time was spent in mad giggling.

Day 13: Today Paul and I started throwing rocks at each other. It's fun sport, really.

Day 16: We caught our first chipmunk today. Heeheehee!
