Hi everyone!
Well, it's finally happened. I've got a paying job. It took many applications, for everything from wetlands restoration in New Jersey to chicken telemetry in Kansas, but I was finally offered a job. I'm going to be working for the national park service in northern mainland Michigan, at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore from May 14 through the middle of September. For the first couple of months, I'm going to be doing piping plover monitoring, followed by more general monitoring, restoration work, invasive species removal, and other odd jobs through the end of the summer. Low-cost housing is provided, there's a town within walking distance with a library, general store, and Village Inn restaurant, and (more importantly) there's a bus route to the larger town of Traverse City, about a half an hour away. It's practically cosmopolitan!
